Current Favorite: Glaze Teriyaki Grill, Union Square

As promised, here's my first entry to the Cheap Eats Near School category!

Meet my current favorite, Glaze Teriyaki. Located at 139 4th Ave, just 6 mins walk from my building and 3 mins walk from Union Square, this is my go-to place whenever I'm craving for a quick, satisfying Asian meal which consist mostly with rice, protein and vegetables. In fact, I went here more than 3 times already, but often without proper gear (a.k.a cameras) so I only have few photos right now. Will update again soon.

Their menu is pretty simple, basically they only serve Charcoal-grilled Teriyaki meal with additional choice of side dishes. First you choose your meat, pick from Chicken Breast, Chicken Thigh, Salmon, Hanger Steak, Soy-marinated Tofu, Wok Vegetables or Boneless Pork Loin. Second, choose whether you're going to have White or Brown Rice. Third, pick a salad dressing: Sesame, Carrot Ginger or gluten free Honey Lemon. For full menu you can see it here.

Chicken Thigh Teriyaki with Brown Rice and Salad with Honey Lemon Dressing ($7.50). Portion is super decent with generous chunks of quality cuts and perfectly cooked brown rice. You know how sometimes brown rice could be a bit tough compared to white rice, but here, they nailed it. Also, the honey lemon salad dressing has a strong hint of lemony sweet which I like. It complements the crisp and fresh veggies and balance the whole meal! This is what I call "happiness in a recycled-paper box".

Salmon Teriyaki with White Rice and Sesame Salad Dressing ($9.50). Here they claimed that their Salmon is always fresh, never frozen. Mine that day were as promised. When I took a bite, the flesh was so juicy and it just absorbs the not overly sweet…

When I took a bite, the flesh was so juicy and it just absorbs the not overly sweet teriyaki sauce. Definitely worth upgrading $2 from my previous Chicken Thigh meal..

Combo! Hanger Steak & Chicken Breast Teriyaki with Brown Rice and Sesame Salad Dressing ($10). Yes, whenever you're feeling indecisive on what meat to have, opt for this Combo Package instead! Their Hanger Steak (which is marinated Japanese beef BBQ) wasn't dry at all, in fact it was as juicy as their grilled chicken. This was actually my first purchase on my first visit to Glaze Teriyaki, and this is what kept me coming back.

Glaze Teriyaki claims that most of their menu is gluten free, also meaning that the boneless and skinless meat & fish being used are all natural and antibiotic free. All the more reason for me to eat there, because I feel it's healthier than any other lunch I've had during the first month. Haha!

I'll keep coming here regularly, now that I know that they actually offer 10% discount if you show your Student ID. Argh how can I be so stupid for not asking during all four visits.

Cheers!
