A Hidden Japanese Gem Called "Sumiya"

Who would have thought that in STC (Senayan Trade Center) there is an actual Japanese restaurant worth eating? Hidden among the bustle of electronics & air soft-gun shops at the Ground Floor, this is exactly where Sumiya is located. Sumiya is said to be an authentic Japanese restaurant and I’ve heard some really good praises on it in social media. But just how ‘authentic’ is authentic? I went there on some dinner time to find out.

A Thing or Two About SUPER STEAK.

I was looking at some old photos collection on my hard-drive and realized that I need to post about this favorite steak place of mine. It’s not a fancy steak restaurant, you can dress up as casual as you want and just bring your appetite, and they will take care of your meat craving. Meet SUPER STEAK

The Battle of "Ayam Tangkap" in Jakarta

Have you tried Acehnese cuisine? Aceh is a special region located at the northern end of Sumatra, which also denotes the westernmost province of Indonesia. Culinary-wise, Aceh is highly influenced by peranakan Malay / Arab / Indian cuisine, which translated into lots of herb & spices usage in cooking and it's mostly curry heavy like other Sumatra regions e.g. Padang. Few samples of Aceh cuisine that I could think of: Ayam Tangkap, Sambal Ganja, Mie Kepiting Aceh, Kuah Pli'u, Timphan, etc.

Finally, A Dedicated Udon Place in Jakarta.

Some bits of history first:

Have you heard of Babacucu.com? If you happen to be a freebie hunter you should really check them out (this is not a sponsored statement :p). It stands for "Bagi bagi cuma cuma", which literally means that this is a giveaway portal that accommodates people who wants to give something for FREE & vice versa, people who wants to look for freebies without much effort. It chooses the winner randomly (I think ~ can't figure out if they're using special philanthropy algorithm or not). It's super random, I know, haha, but think of it as testing your luck.

Mamma Rosy, The Place to Taste Homemade Cooking of A Genuine Italian Family

We found another Italian restaurant in town! This time, it's rather interesting because it's run by Italian family along with some Indonesian partners, and based on its website, I believe the recipes that they use are hereditary since three generations. Mamma Rosy is owned by Daniel Vigone, and in case you're wondering, yes, he named the restaurant after his mom's name, Rosy, who now also acts as the house's main chef.

Experiencing Modernist Cuisine at Gastro Alley PIK

I rarely go to Pantai Indah Kapuk (PIK) area because it's incredibly far, >30 kilometers away from where I live. I know it's a food paradise with dozens of restaurants trying to outshine each other along the main boulevard itself, which becomes the main thing that attracts people to come. One of the hidden gems is Gastro Alley. So when Ruby from Wanderbites who happens to know the Head Chef personally, arranged a private tasting for us to taste the newest Chef's take on modernist cuisine, I nearly jumped with joy!

Tapas Movida Revisited: Another Day to Remember

It's been quite some time since my last memorable visit to Tapas Movida, an authentic Spanish restaurant in Cipete, South Jakarta. This time, few weeks ago I was contacted by its owner, Riz Bastian, to have a friendly gathering along with other bloggers as well. It was such an honor for me and I get to meet their head Chef again, Chef Manuel (whose last time I recall, he gave us a whole jug of Sangria on the house! What a great guy.)

Omakase at UMAKU, My Best Sushi Dining Experience

Omakase (お任せis a phrase that literally means "to entrust". Means, when you order Omakase at a Japanese restaurant, you are entrusting the chef to prepare your meal at his whim; from appetizer to dessert. He will then select the freshest local/seasonal ingredients-of-the-day and arrange them into sequence, giving you a special dining experience, featuring both hot and cold dishes that demonstrates the diversity and originality of authentic Japanese cuisine.
